Techniques used in Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture and Chinese medicine extends far beyond putting needles in clients. The scope of practice for Acupuncturists includes a number of techniques as well as dietary advice and herbal prescriptions. Acupuncturist’s official title in Washington State is East Asian Medicine Practitioner (EAMP), which gives better explanation to the broad scope of practice of which Chinese medicine and Acupuncture are a part.

Gua Sha

Gua Sha (a dermal friction technique used by a small tool, creating local friction that releases tight fascia, as well as more internal stagnation and heat)

Tui Na

Tui Na (Chinese style of massage, that includes pulling, grasping, kneading, rolling, and stretching) Tui Na (Chinese style of massage, that includes pulling, grasping, kneading, rolling, and stretching)


Moxa (a warming herb that is used either directly or indirectly on the body for building energy or immunity, or assisting with pain or gynecological or digestive complaints)


Cupping (a manual technique using glass cups creating a suction on a larger muscle group, like the back, to help release tight muscles)

Qi Gong

Qi Gong (gentle movement and breathing techniques for specific conditions)
